  10. 09/09/09 Finish!

    09/10/09 08:34:18 | 0 Comments

I finished my 9th biscornu of 2009 on the 9th day of the 9th month! image

The designs on both sides are from DMC leaflet #9077-Cross Stitch With Rayon Floss, by Alice Okon. I came across it in my stash, and thought a couple of the designs would make a nice floral biscornu. The side with the hummingbird bead is the Monogrammed Medallion (bird instead of letter) and the other side is the Blue Medallion Pincushion, with a small floral button in the center. I used regular cotton DMC rather than rayon, and stitched them on 22ct white hardanger fabric. I also added a cord so it could be hung, or used as a scissor fob.

  13. Alla Turca SAL is done!

    08/23/09 10:55:18 | 0 Comments

I finished the last part of the Alla Turca SAL by Pelin Tezer! Here is a picture....
    image

The fabric is Silkweaver's Aquamarine, the threads are Weeks Peacock and RG gold Sparkle braid.
It is stitched over one on 32ct linen and is 9" tall only!
Now I am going back to my other SAL, the Papillion Creations' Castles in the Air....it has peacocks too!

  14. Cheetah Biscornu

    08/13/09 18:04:17 | 0 Comments

Finally got all the pictures uploaded from my camera, with vacation pics and ones of my latest finish as well! I forgot to take a picture of this Cheetah biscornu before assembly, so use your imagination. The fabric is some aida heatherfield I had in the stash, and the cat face buttons were found at Michaels. Don't know if they are cheetahs or not. I changed the DMC colors to match the buttons too. I'll go post it on the Basket of Biscornu blog soon for my August entry. The design is from the blog Cross Stitch Happy BTW. Front and back, obviously.

    07/16/09 06:29:39 | 0 Comments

Here's another quick finish found while stash diving this week! It's from an old JCS leaflet called Absorbing Nature by Cathy Livingston. This is the Bluebird design stitched on 14ct vinyl weave for a soap dispenser (from Crafter's Pride).

  20. July Biscornu!

    07/03/09 19:04:40 | 0 Comments

This is my July biscornu, from Alexandrina's Matryoshka Biscornu blog. It is called the Summer Butterfly Biscornu. I used some white 28ct evenweave and Dinky-Dyes silks to stitch the pattern, which reminded me of fireworks. I used a small piece of yellow fabric basted on the evenweave for the back, and added a silk twisted cord to make it a fob. It's just over 2 inches across!

  22. Framed!

    06/30/09 16:28:48 | 0 Comments

I picked up a couple of pieces finished earlier this year from my framer last Saturday! These are Winter Bird Delight by Praiseworthy Stitches, and Ink Circles' Growth Rings. The pics are clickable.

    image
    image

I also finished part 3 of Papillon's Castles in the Air today!
    image
  23. Another birthday tote!

    06/26/09 06:01:53 | 0 Comments

I finished this tote bag a couple of weeks ago and now that the birthday girl, my DD, has turned 15 I can finally post a picture! The tote bag came from CharlesCraft, and the pattern is from a website called CraftsWeb NZ and is in the Assisi category there. It is the Kiwi Pin Cushion pattern (DD loves kiwis!), and I stitched it four times in four different varigated colors on the tote bag, using color theory principles (warm/cool, primary/secondary, complementary colors) which of course she picked up on right away, being an art student! Oh, and she got a cool new camera too....and started practicing on the cats right away.
    imageimage
I am working on Part 3 of Papillon's Castles in the Air this week, and hope to have a new pic soon! image

  24. San-Man cuties!

    06/19/09 15:07:39 | 0 Comments

I got some cute charts and mounts from the San-Man Secret Shop newsletter (limited edition charts for board members) and stitched up two of them right away! I needed a break from the over 1 stitching anyway. image
The first is called Going Bananas, and the tuck was included. I used DMC and white 14ct aida. image
    imageclickable link

The second is called Kitty Frame, which came with the fishy chart to stitch. It's really small, the frame opening is less than 2 inches! You can see by the kitty thimble just how small it is. I used DMC and lt. blue 14ct aida. image
    imageclickable link
  25. Alla Turca, Pts. 4,5,6 added

    06/17/09 11:29:52 | 0 Comments

Here is Alla Turca by Pelin Tezer all caught up to the SAL, parts 4, 5 and 6 of 9 parts added. The upper left stack of 3 motifs (pt.5) was off line a bit....two threads over and two up to be exact, but I didn't notice until I was approaching from below on part 6, so the frogs were a' croaking as I ripped out those motifs from part 5 and re-stitched them. Now back to Castles in the Air SAL, part 3!

  26. Biscornu for June

    06/08/09 11:29:02 | 0 Comments

This is my biscornu for June on the Basket of Biscornu blog....a 2004 Just Nan pattern that is suited perfectly for a biscornu! I used a 28ct light gray jobelan, and stitched the scalloped border of the pattern for the back of the biscornu. Completed 6/6/09.
    image

    image

  27. Alla Turca, Parts 2 & 3 added

    06/01/09 05:44:50 | 0 Comments

This is going fast, and now Alla Turca has parts 2 and 3 added! I may add some more gold braid as it progresses, as I want to make sure it's balanced.
    imageimage
I'm going to be working on a b'day present for DD this week while she is still in school....only 8 days left! image

  28. Alla Turca, Part 1

    05/29/09 13:58:37 | 0 Comments

Yet another SAL for me, this one is by Pelin Tezer and is a freebie SAL in 9 parts. This is mostly part 1, which is the center of the piece. In a fit of insanity, I'm stitching it over one on 28ct cashel with one strand of Weeks Peacock and some RG Sparkle Braid in gold. I think it was the peacocks that hooked me!
    image
  29. Biscornu for May

    05/20/09 06:53:53 | 0 Comments

Finally, an actual finish for May! This is my 5th biscornu of the year, a freebie design from Casey Buonaugurio Designs called the Frog Biscornu (or it could be a pillow pinkeep, a needlebook, etc.). The fabric is a green Silkweaver Solo 32ct lugana, threads are DMC, and the two buttons are from Just Another Button Company. I just love they way the frogs are all eying that fly in the middle! Anyway, here it is before assembly....
    image
    And both sides after assembly...
    imageimage
  30. Castles in the Air, Pt. 2

    05/14/09 06:09:31 | 0 Comments

Here it is, as promised! I have finished adding all of part 2 of Papillon's Castles in the Air, and am looking forward to the next part! After this I will do a biscornu and work on another tote, just for the change of pace from urns and garlands! image
